MCLA recently won two District of Columbia section Awards of Merit from the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America – the first award is in the category of ‘Museum Interiors’ and the second for work done on the 1828 L Street NW building. The full list of award winners is posted here.

1828 L Street wins Illumni Infinity Award

MCLA recently won an Illumni Infinity award in the category of ‘Workplace Lighting’ for the 1828 L Street, NW building. In the building’s lobby, aqua blue glass walls are back lighted at top and bottom to achieve a waterfall-like appearance and contrast with the warm earthiness of wood paneled walls opposite them. Thin, bright toe kick lighting reflects off the floor and ceiling and draws patrons toward the concierge desk, feature wall and elevators beyond.

200 Eye Street Wins at the Washington Business Journal Awards

200 Eye Street won Best Deal of the Year and Best Rehab/Reuse at the Washington Business Journal’s Best Real Estate Awards Ceremony. The 408,000-square-foot building, once a windowless industrial property, now houses some 1,400 employees from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the Child and Family Services Agency, and the Office of the Chief Technology Officer.

University of Baltimore’s School of Law Featured in Architectural Record

The University of Baltimore’s John and Frances Angelos Law Center which MCLA recently worked on with Behnisch Architekten and Ayers Saint Gross was recently featured in Architectural Record. The 192,000-square-foot building consolidates the School of Law’s program under one roof for the first time and features universal LED lighting. Study on the MCLA’s backlit walls in the National Cancer Institute building

GPI Design conducted a case study entitled “A Closer Look: National Cancer Institute Backlit Wood Feature Walls” which focuses on the design development process of the building’s walls. The custom backlit wood wall was executed by HOK and MCLA.

National Center for Climate and Weather Protection featured in Landscape Architect

The National Center for Climate and Weather Prediction was featured in Landscape Architect’s February issue. For the project, MCLA was partnered with a team of HOK landscape architects and planners to develop the award-winning building, creating a plan in lockstep with the climatic and environmental mission of NOAA. Located on a 10-acre site adjacent to the University of Maryland in College Park, MD, the new facility is intended to foster synergy between university researchers and NOAA staff.
