On April 12, the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) DC chapter held an interactive panel discussion on the subject of “Value Engineering.” In addition to MCLA’S Scott Gunther, other panelists (see full list here) provided perspectives from other disciplines. Held at SmithgroupJJR offices, the event was attended by 40 people in addition to the six panelists. “Value Engineering has evolved into a generic term for cost cutting,” said Scott. “Owners and Developers should understand that when they request a ‘VE’ lighting package, it can negate the obligation to meet the project’s design intent and subsequently decrease the project’s ‘Value’.”
